A city can be intimate and distant at the same time. Urban Unfold takes three cities apart, the way film is cut, and puts them back together as one picture.
The series starts from Walter Benjamin's flâneur: the walker who is part of the crowd and apart from it, attached and detached at once. Walking a street, we keep a private memory of a corner, a façade, a bridge; walking it with millions of others, those memories add up to a shared city.
Each drawing holds both. Fragments of plan, elevation and photograph are cut and layered until the personal and the collective sit in the same frame.

A city taken apart and put back together, the way film is cut. Blocks, intersections, the stray fragments of everyday life — spliced, frame by frame, until New York is no longer a map, but a rhythm.
把一座城市拆开,再像剪电影一样重新拼接。街区、路口、日常散落的碎片,被一帧一帧剪下、接起——直到纽约不再是一张地图,而成为一种节奏。

Rome is made of fragments — old lives beneath the new, never fully gone. Layer upon layer, the city holds its past in the present. In quiet colour, streets become a rhythm of time, memory, and everyday life.
罗马由碎片构成——旧时光藏在新生活之下,从未真正消失。一层叠着一层,城市把过去留在当下。以安静的色彩,让街道成为时间、记忆与日常生活交织的节奏。

Cities keep remaking themselves, and they leave marks on the people who live in them: memories that attach to particular buildings. The series calls these personal immersions.
Over time they converge into a collective impression of the city. The drawings work in the gap between the two — the private walk and the public map.
Until the city is no longer a map, but a rhythm.
In 2026 the Unfold New York and New Ground drawings were published as silk twill editions, 90 × 90 cm, hand-rolled hems, in numbered printings of fifty, by ARKVEIL.
